Just Do It...Today
A few days ago, Isaiah Garza (aka Fashion Munster), posted a very moving update on his Facebook wall. I was so moved by it, that I felt compelled to share it and further explore it's meaning.
Sick and tired of these status's on how 2012 is their year or how they are going to change so much in 2012. If you need it to be a new year to change then I feel bad for you. I make shit happen just because it's a Wednesday!!! ~ Isaiah Garza
I think this is very important for a number of reasons. The first being that I completely agree. If you objectively think about it, not much is going to be different on January 1st, 2012 at 12:00:00 then 11:59:59 on December 31st, 2011, except a couple of letters and numbers. So if all it takes is for a few numbers and letters to change in a date to completely re-energize your life/ make you lose weight/ be successful/ quit smoking/ blah blah blah, then why not just start right now?
Each day, hour, and minute that goes by brings a "NEW" opportunity to do something important, a "NEW" moment in time (which is all 2012 really is) to live the rest of your life the way you want. I mean, there's a reason why people don't say "There's no time like the future." It's because we don't know the future, but we can control the present. Conversely, is there ever a "right time" to do something? How many times have you heard someone say "I'm going to start on Monday." WTF!?! What's wrong with today?
This kind of thinking isn't conducive for success, nor for handling failure. And make no mistake about it, many people will fail in their quest to get a job, keep a daily journal, or be healthy (whatever that means). And when some of you do fail, let me guess, you're going to proclaim that 2013 will be the year?. Lame.
This is what I think, and not to be cliche, but Just Do It (I plan on sending Nike 5 dollars after I'm done writing this). If you're a photographer and you want to plan more photoshoots in 2012, fuck that. Do more photoshoots in 2011. There's still about 36 hours left. Grab your camera, pick up your phone and call some models (or shoot people on the street i don't care) and start Flashin Lights like Kanye. Heck, instead of celebrating with a champagne toast, celebrate the New Year during a photo shoot with a champagne colored backdrop.
Do we have some designers in the audience? Are you planning on starting a clothing line in 2012 or expanding, or selling more? Well, I have a serving Just Do It (Today) for you as well. Head to the fabric store, rip up a bed sheet, make your New Years Eve costume (and then sell it online), whatever. Just get the ball rolling today.
Same goes for Artists and Musicians: Just Do It (Right Now). There is no better time to be in music or art. With sites like Artiscle & Turning Art, there have never been more ways to get your stuff out there and make money. And don't get me started on music. The list of people who have launched on Youtube literally grows every day. And now there are other alternatives like Google Music's Artist Hub & StageIt. The future of music is now.
As for myself, I'm been just doing it with every word on this blog. I also just started to rid myself of dead weight (aka people who are holding me back). I hit send on that email a few minutes ago. Adios!
And I made sure to sign up for StageIt, Duolingo, and Schemer (to keep track of all the stuff I just did) a few weeks go.
So 2012...err, Today here I Come!!!!!
