Doomtree's Dessa Darling Connects Fashion with Passion

A color can carry a thousand messages. Green can mean go, yellow can mean slow, and blue can spread the promise of clear skies. With a simple process of our reflexes, red can read as stop but in the most particular cases it can carry a completely different meaning. Poet/MC Dessa Darling, from the Minnesota hip-hop collective Doomtree, had a chance to redefine the color red herself. She inspirationally collaborated with The Elixary, a Minneapolis based makeup company, to create a red lipstick that spoke to her true colors and her passions, educating women worldwide.

The new shade, properly titled Dessa, was curated not only to accentuate the color tones of the MC herself but also to uplift the highlights of anyone who would wear it. Dessa has chosen to donate all of her proceeds (which totally to 20% of the lipstick’s profits) to CARE, an international organization that is dedicated to uplifting the lives of young women in developing countries through leadership training and proper education. With just a few strokes of ingenuity, Dessa Darling has reinvented the definition of red from ‘stop’ to a roaring ‘GO’.
