Making the Mag Part 1: Papercut's Journey to the May 2012 Issue

About a month ago, one of our awesome readers, Michael McKenzie, emailed us with a very good question. He wanted to know how we got started. In typical Papercut Fashion (which you can equate to anything but typical) we decided to respond to his query with a whole new mini segment called Making The Mag. As we gear up for our two year anniversary, we figured we share some posts with you about how we got started and also chronicle the process of putting our May 2012 Issue together.

So here we go!!

A Flare For Flores

It appears that student Barbara Flores’ love for graphic design began overnight. “Ever since I could remember I had a camera in my hand,” Flores said. She has always had a love for photography and the arts, and finds it intriguing that one can not only tell a story with words, but with images as well. Flores has photographed weddings, parties and works with personal clients upon request.

BeccaSeda from Rebecca Silvers

A love for drawing and design can take an individual a long way. Take for example, San Francisco native Rebecca Silvers. The artist graduated in 2001 from the University of California at Santa Cruz, then went on to the Big Apple to study graphic design at Parsons School of Design. She graduated in 2004, and then proceeded to work for DMA animation as an animation assistant.

The Visual Works of Mitch Griffiths

“If an individual wants to be a leader and isn't controversial, that means he never stood for anything.” ~ Richard M. Nixon

Controversial. Breath-taking. Phenomenal. These indeed are the words that come to mind when viewing the artwork of Mitch Griffiths. Born in 1971, Griffiths accidentally became a painter in 1994 when painting a portrait of famous boxer Chris Eubank and sending a photograph of it to Eubank’s agent. Eubank was so pleased with Griffiths’ work, he gave Griffiths a job

Music Tuesdays: Rivals of Time

Music and fashion. Two creative industries that share a unique and close relationship. So close in fact, that you’ll be hard pressed to find a popular artist that doesn't have a clothing line, a fragrance, an accessories line, or in some cases all three. And popular acts aren't the only ones trying their hand at fashion either. It’s now pretty standard, along with a facebook profile and the almighty 3 track demo, for bands to sell t-shirts, trucker hats and other “merch” to help promote themselves.
