Smart phones are not just utilized for basic communication needs. These small devices are musical epicenters with the ability to create sounds, capture voices, play instruments, and even mix beats, all with the push of a button or a swipe of the fingertip. As they get smaller and smaller, smart phones are able to carry a larger punch in what they are capable of in terms of musical production. Recognizing the advantage that technology can hold when integrated correctly, some musicians are redefining the art of making music.
Media consumption has dissolved into a filtration system of small bits and 140 characters. Our ears now are trained in new ways of consuming music: short, quick, and to the point. In the past, the shortest form of visual media in the music industry was the music video but now our ability to retain information does not extend past what flashes on our screen. Already a dying art form, the music video has been dually affected by the Internet’s shortened attention span. We have entered into the age of music video trailers.
The Internet is one large megaphone for news. Every single user can add their voice to the bellowing scream of information, whether accurate or completely false. Not unlike a rumor mill, the Internet creates pathways for news to spread quickly without real cause for noting sources. A perfect example of our modern technology's ability to meme itself into credited news outlets is the misinformed case of music producer Swizz Beatz holding the title of CEO of the now defunct file-sharing company, MegaUpload.

A few days ago, I decided to do a little experiment. I went to Youtube (like 600 million other people who do this on a daily basis) and typed “covers” into the browser. No thinking was necessary, I just went ahead and clicked the first link I saw.
So last night I caught myself watching Kim's Fairytale Wedding (my girlfriend made me I swear), when I caught a promo for Kim's upcoming reality series Khole & Kim Take New York. Normally, this wouldn't be anything to write home about, but the music in the background grabbed my attention. It was by an artist named Sabi. Not knowing who she was, I did what any sensible person does, I "Youtubed" her. And to my surprise, she's actually one of the most established unestablished artists out there.
When the worlds of fashion and music collide, as with any collaboration, it's either a hit (Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.) or a miss (Lindsay Lohan for Ungaro). As I'm never one to waste a persons time (at least not on purpose), they'll be no more talk of misses on my watch, only hits. So today's fashion and music hit is The Vogue Vibes.
If you're like me and you like Electro Pop or more appropriately Indietronica, then you'll the love The Limousines. Formed in 2007, and currently signed to Dangerbird Records, this duo's brand of electro is sure to please. Their debut album, Get Sharp, is out now and is definitely worth a listen.
