Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: DAY 1
Hey Papercutters!
So today was the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and wow, did it start with a bang! I actually had a bit of trouble for the first half of the day as I overslept this morning, missed my train and a few shows in the a.m. (oops). In my defense, I will say this happened because I have been up late working on our September issue in order to bring you the best I can! At least that way you know I am not totally irresponsible! But wow, you should’ve seen the temper tantrum I threw when I found out how late I overslept. It was not a pretty picture, to say the least.
Once I trekked through the pouring rain via car and train and cab, I finally made it to Lincoln Center in time to catch the Tadashi Shoji show with Alvin Nguyen and Isaiah aka Fashion Munster. It was a gorgeous first show with variations of ruffled, sequined and flowing gowns. The way they moved as the models walked was simply beautiful. Celebrity sightings included Jojo (who was actually jetsetting to Toronto later that day to go on tour) and Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler on True Blood).

After some backstage action at Tadashi we wandered over to the Box for the Candela show. If you remember from a previous blog post, Candela was one of our featured newcomers to MBFW. Designer Gabriela Perezutti brought us to a tropical paradise with the models posing amidst tropical plants and flowers. Actually now that I mention it, the air in the Box felt pretty tropical itself. Hopefully they pump the AC up more tomorrow as it was pretty hot everywhere in the tent! Quite a change from February where I felt I needed to wear my Michael Kors parka at all times.

Candela wrapped up the first day, so we decided to grab some delicious Mexican from Rosa Mexicano right across from Lincoln Center. Seriously, fellow MBFWers if you haven’t been there yet, be sure to do so! Their guacamole is to die for.
Once we were sustained it was just about time for Fashion’s Night Out to begin! We had some trouble at first ending up at a wrong location, but once we hit Broadway we knew we struck gold. First off it was Victoria’s Secret where we caught up with models Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. From there we headed to Aldo a few doors down and caught up with a third VS model, Doutzen Kroes. And after that we headed over to TopShop where we chatted with “it” girl Karlie Kloss (whom Alvin is still gushing over), Coco Rocha and Chanel Iman. It was pretty fabulous. Of course there was lots of other wandering and shopping, but those were definitely the hightlights of the evening.

Once 10 o’clock hit, we decided it was homeward bound for us. I myself need to be up, ready and at Lincoln Center to go backstage at the Emerson show with Fashion Munster. Should be exciting – as long as there’s no oversleeping involved!!
With that being said, I think it’s bedtime for me, Papercutters. Until tomorrow!
xoxo
Nicole
